Tips to save on airfare

Winter is now here to stay for a few months and gives us a strong urge to go on a beach somewhere down south! But travelling is expensive! There are 3 mandatory and major expenses when you go on a trip: 1 – the need to eat, 2 – accommodations and 3 – transport. Here are some tips to save on airfare:

1 – “Low-cost” airlines

This type of company has multiplied in recent years. You have to be willing to sacrifice on quality, but their prices really are unbeatable. Be aware that the price only includes your seat. You’ll have to pay for:

  • Your suitcase if you put it in the baggage hold.
  • Any excess weight, even for your carry-on baggage
  • Choosing your seat
  • Meals, drinks, even coffee!

2 – Buy your plane ticket well in advance

For this you need to have the luxury of choosing your holiday in advance otherwise you must be flexible in the dates and destinations. On the other hand, if you do have the luxury of being flexible…

3 – Leave in November or late January as prices are lower before and after the Holiday Season.

4 – Choose departures on Wednesday or Thursday or Friday.

The most popular days for departures and arrivals of vacationers are of course Saturdays and Sundays. Since there are fewer requests on mid-weekdays, they are less expensive!

5 – Book the plane ticket on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays because they will usually be cheaper.

6 – Book your plane ticket between 1:00 am and  4:00 am.

Easier said then done, but you could save up to 25% compared to noon or 8:00 pm!

7 – Use price comparison platforms like Kayak,   Expedia  or  Flightnetwork

It’s easy and quick to find a better price. These tools also compare alternative and less expensive travel dates.

8 – While shopping, be careful not to search each time for the same travel dates.

Airline and search platform websites like Kayak or Expedia use cookies, and when they see that you are looking for the same dates from the same device and IP address, they drive prices up. Do the same research but from your cell phone, tablet, another computer, etc.

9 – Download the Hopper app.

This handy tool will monitor the fluctuating prices for you for your destination of choice and send you alerts when the price is at its lowest. Hopper  predicts prices with 95% accuracy up to 1 year in advance.

10 – As much as possible, stay over Saturday nights as this also lowers the price.

There is more and more “bleasure” which means combining business with pleasure! Staying over Saturday night lowers the price of the plane ticket.

11 – Split long-haul flights.

For example, take a stopover flight to your destination’s international airport. Then take a domestic flight to your final destination. That will cost you less than a direct flight. This increases travel time but can decrease the price significantly.

There you go! With these tips to save on airfare you should be able to find a plane ticket to the destination of your dreams at a reasonable price. Credit2Go  also helps you travel with its credit repair program and with its quick and easy loan offer.
